Rakeback is really simple and if you’ve never heard of it before then you’ll be glad you found us because we can make you extra money every month. If you play online poker then you pay the poker room you play with a rake every time that you play a real money hand or real money tournament.
Typically the online poker rooms will keep the entire rake they collect from players, but over the past several years poker rooms have begun paying a percentage of the rake back to players. You will be able to receive anywhere from 5%-35% of the rake that you pay every month to the poker room although you should expect about 25%-35% from most of the good poker rooms. If you play a lot of online poker throughout the month then you can imagine how much money you’re leaving on the table right now without a rakeback deal from your poker room.
There are a couple different methods that rakeback is calculated in the online poker rooms and it’s important that you know how it’s calculated. You won’t be able to typically see the breakdown of the rake you’ve earned each month and instead it will just be shown in a whole number for the entire month. You will be able to gain an idea of how much rakeback you should earn though based on how much you typically play each month using the methods below.
Shared Rake
Shared rake is the best type of way to calculate rakeback for players who play cash games and don’t like getting in much action. With shared rake the poker room calculates how much each player gets back based on how many players got dealt cards. If you’re playing on a full 9 player table and everyone was dealt cards and the rake was $.90 then everyone would receive $.10 of the rake even if they didn’t play the hand.
Contributed Rake
The contributed rake calculation isn’t ideal for the players who don’t get in much action because you’ll only receive rake on the money you contribute into each pot. If two of you are playing in a pot and you both contribute the same amount of money into the pot and the rake is $2 then you would each get $1. Obviously the rake can add up quickly this way if you play a lot of hands, but if you don’t then it might not be the best method for you.
If you play in tournaments then it won’t matter what way the rake is calculated because you would end up with the same number since everyone pays the same fees to play in the tournament. If you want to calculate how much rakeback you would roughly receive with your poker room based on how much you play then I would recommend checking out our poker calculator. As you can see rakeback is simply a term that is used to describe the percentage of the rake you receive back from the poker room when you’re set-up with a rakeback deal.
